When it comes to March, College Basketball is king, and everyone tries to predict the March Madness bracket. The most important thing people attempt to predict are those first round upsets. The upsets are where the madness begins.
March Madness 1st Round Upsets
13 South Dakota State over 4 Providence
One of the ingredients for a team to pull off a massive upset is consistent 3pt shooting. Well, South Dakota State does that better than anyone in the country after leading all D1 College Basketball in 3pt percentage. Led by Baylor Scheierman and Douglas Wilson, these two players are versatile. They give South Dakota State shooting, rebounding, passing, while also being surrounded by great 3pt shooters. While Providence may have the better guard play with Jared Bynum, Al Durham, and also having the best player in entire game Nate Watson. I believe South Dakota State is the much deeper team along with better shooting across the board, that’s why I think they will win this game.
11 Virgina Tech over 6 Texas
Virgina Tech is one of the hottest teams in College Basketball after winning 4 straight games including one against Duke to capture the ACC Championship. Virgina Tech also ranks 3rd best in D1 Basketball in 3pt percentage while Texas as a team is not a great 3pt shooting team. Timmy Allen for Texas is a great player that can shoot, rebound, and score in the paint but Keve Aluma for Virgina Tech is the best player in this matchup. So, between being the hotter team, better 3pt shooting, and having the best player, Virgina Tech should pull off the upset.
10 Davidson over 7 Michigan State
11 Michigan over 6 Colorado State
12 Indiana over 5 St. Mary’s
10 Loyola Chicago over 7 Ohio State
10 Miami over 7 USC
9 TCU over 8 Seton Hall
Final Four
1 Gonzaga over 2 Kentucky
1 Arizona over 5 Iowa
While I have Arizona winning, Iowa is my sleeper team to make the final four. Iowa is one of if not the deepest team in the tournament. They are also led by the best player in all of College Basketball Keegan Murray who is scoring almost 24 points per game while also grabbing 8.6 rebounds per game.
National Championship
1 Gonzaga over 1 Arizona
From top to bottom, Gonzaga is the most complete team in College Basketball. They have the NBA talent with potential first overall pick Chet Holmgren. They can play tough defense, has good shooting ability, and great players at all positions. Three NBA guards with Julian Strawther, Rasir Bolton, Andrew Nembhard, and another NBA Forward with Drew Timme who is also in contention for best College Basketball player this season. I believe Gonzaga finally captures its first ever National Championship.
