In a surprising move the Seattle Mariners have traded for Adam Frazier.

Ray Kerr is a prospect that the Mariners just added to the 40 man roster. The left-handed pitcher threw 60 strikeouts in 39.2 innings last year and finished the season with a 3.18 ERA. Kerr, 27, hits 100 from the left side.

Coming into the offseason, the Mariners were looking to deepen their lineup, second base was a position of need. Though he can also play in the outfield. Adam Frazier was an All-star second baseman who hit over .300 with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Last season, he led all Major League second baseman with a .305 batting average. Though his defensive versatility is a plus, his bat plays best in a lineup that lacked consistent contact. He’s in line to play in a superutility role, especially if Seattle signs a big-name free agent infielder. He enters the season under contract for $7.5M, and can enter Free Agency after the season.

“We do,” Dipoto answered when asked at the end of the media session if he has offers out to free agents. “We do have two offers on the table. One that I would say is notable.”

“He just answers the length to the lineup riddle,” he said. “He just makes us a better, more complete team. He can hit at the top of the lineup, he can move the lineup from roughly any position. He can play second, he can touch third, he can play both left and right. That just gives us so much flexibility in what we do with the other players.”
