Michigan is the Big Ten Champions for the first time since 2004. They beat Iowa in a dominant fashion 42 to 3. This was a must win game for Michigan so they could get into the College Football Playoffs. Michigan finishes the season 12-1 and Iowa finishes 10-3. It was all Michigan since the first snap of the game.
Michigan’s Great Game
Michigan came into this game after beating Ohio State 42 to 27 and it carried into this game. Even though the quarterback play for Michigan was not the best. They did find serveral ways to score during the game which made the score so one sided. Cade McNamara had 169 passing yards and one touchdown and one intreception. Michigan ran an unexpected trick play in the first quarterback where Donovan Edwards throw a 75 yard passing touchdown to Roman Wilson. It showed how much Jim Harbaugh wanted to win this game. They wanted to make another statement and it definitely was a statement.
Michigan’s defense had their best game of the year and it couldn’t have came at the best time. Besides the fact that Iowa only scored three points, they also held them to only 270 total yards. 175 were passing yards and 104 were rushing and Michigans defense was just all over Iowa and did not let them do anything. This was what Michigan needed and the committee will see this and will put Michigan in the top 4.
Iowa’s Offense Woes
This was Iowa’s lowest scoring game and the score was in the first quarter. Their offense continued to show the biggest weakness for Iowa during this game. Iowa was 5 for 19 on 3rd down conversions and had only 15 first downs. They also were 19 for 38 passing the ball and it just seemed like they could not find a rhythm during the game. Spencer Petras was 9 for 22 for 137 yards but got taken out for Alex Padilla who was 10 for 15 for only 38 yards. It did not seem like Iowa could get anything started on offense.
Final Thoughts
Michigan need to make a huge statement win to be in the College Football Playoffs and they did exactly that. They will more then likely be in the top 4 but we do not know who they will play at this moment. Iowa showed the country who they are once again and did it against a team that you need to be playing your best against. Iowa will hopefully grow after this season and be back here next year.
