Michigan QB Jack Tuttle Returning For Seventh Season

The Michigan Wolverines will be undergoing a change in 2024. They’ll have a new head coach in Sherrone Moore, but that’s not the only change. They’ll lose both Blake Corum and J.J. McCarthy to the NFL Draft. So they’ll have a new backfield. Moore has some options at quarterback after Jack Tuttle has announced that he’ll return for his seventh season.

Though, not a record, seven years is a lot. The record belongs to former Northern Illinois’ Linebacker Kyle Pugh. Reports of his return had emerged Saturday when Jack Tuttle posted a highlight reel of last season. The Michigan QB transferred in before the 2023 season and served as the primary backup to McCarthy.

Throughout the season, he saw sparse time when the Wolverines were up by an insurmountable lead through the 2023 season. Tuttle played in six games, completing 15 of his 17 passes for 130 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions.

It’s been a journey for the Michigan QB, who began his collegiate career as a Redshirt at Utah. He then transferred to Indiana, completing 104 of his 182 passes for 901 yards, five touchdowns, and six interceptions.

So he has experience, which could be a positive for Michigan as they move forward without McCarthy and Jim Harbaugh, but that won’t win him the starting job easily. He’ll have to compete with capable backup Alex Orji and highly-touted recruit Jayden Denegal to earn the starts on Saturdays. He’ll have to convince Offensive Coordinator Kirk Campbell that the experience means something.

No matter what happens, he’ll enjoy the ride with Michigan one more time. He wouldn’t have come back if he was planning to do so.
