Just two days after Harbaugh signed a deal with the Los Angeles Chargers, the Michigan Wolverines announced that they would promote Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line Coach Sherrone Moore to be the head coach. ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report the news.

Sherrone Moore entered the spotlight when he was the interim head coach for Michigan during Harbaugh’s three-game suspension. During that time, he led the Wolverines to a 3-0 record. Moore led them to victory over top-tier teams in Penn State, Maryland, and Ohio State. In 2018, he was named the Tight Ends coach before transitioning to the O-Line. He has created some of the best Offensive Lines in the country since 2020. A group that won Joe Moore Award twice and was the biggest strength for the Wolverines in their championship run.

Before being the Offensive Coordinator in 2023, Moore had spent two years as a Co-OC. He should be able to keep the team steady as they gear up for another championship run. He’s a favorite of the players and that leads to success.

After news broke that Harbaugh would be headed to LA, Zak Zinter, who has declared for the NFL Draft went on X and vouched for Moore to be the HC: “No interviews needed. It’s Papa Moore’s time”

It appears that Zinter may have gotten the wish. There were no interviews to speak of and Moore was named the HC just two days later. He’ll likely continue to build this team up through the trenches. He’s considered a fairly good recruiter which will go a long way for him as the head coach. He was the primary recruiter for both J.J. McCarthy and Daxton Hill.

It sounds like the Michigan faithful are already optimistic about the hire, but only time will tell how he’ll fare as a full-time head coach.
