It appears that the Alabama vacancy, will not be as easy to fill as everyone thought. A couple of the top names such as Dan Lanning, Steve Sarkisian and presumably Lane Kiffin have already removed their name from the search. Now, Mike Norvell can be added to the list of coaches who will not be moving to Alabama.

Once Lanning had removed his name, Norvell had quickly become a favorite following a 13-0 season with Florida State. However, he has now signed an 8-year extension with Florida State according to Pete Thamel.

He also posted on his own X account, letting the world know that he’s staying in Tallahassee with a simple message:”GREAT DAY to be a FLORIDA STATE SEMINOLE!!” Norvell wrote on his X account.

With Mike Norvell removing his name from the Alabama rumors, we are now at three or four so to do so. The Crimson Tide may now be focused on Kalen DeBoer to lead the roster. With rumors that Alabama OC Tommy Rees may be interviewed as well.

The new amendment to Norvell’s contract at Alabama marks the sixth time that his contract has been updated. The last time that it was updated was just before the 2023 season. Following an undefeated season, despite the loss in the bowl game to Georgia, Norvell has the Seminoles in a great spot. They have the 7th-ranked recruitment class in the country per 247 Sports. They’ve also received some top transfer portal recruits heading into the 2024 season.

It is unclear as of now, where Alabama is with their search. The hope was that they would announce their new coach within 72 hours. The reports show that they are interviewing candidates today.
