Patriots 2024 NFL Draft

As they gear up for the offseason with the 2024 NFL Draft in mind, the Patriots are another team with a lot of decisions to make. Do they keep Bill Belichick or opt to bring in a new coach? After making the postseason in Mac Jones’ rookie season, the Patriots have gone backward and will finish with just 4-5 wins. Their goals are likely clear.

Pick No. 3 – Drake Maye – North Carolina QB

The Patriots have struggled to find a reliable quarterback since Tom Brady left. They can draft their next franchise QB with a top-three pick, no matter who the coach is. A coin can be flipped between the Commanders and Patriots on who will get Caleb Williams and who will get Maye. Currently, it’s hard to say who fits better because you don’t know who the QB will be.

Pick No. 34 – Tyler Guyton – Oklahoma OT

With a new franchise QB, you’re going to need a good offensive line to protect him. Guyton is one of the best lineman in the 2024 draft. He may be a bit of a work in progress with a PFF grade of 63.7, but as the Patriots head towards a rebuild. They have the time for him to develop. He wouldn’t need to start right away. Bring in a veteran lineman to mentor him.

Pick No. 68 – Johnny Wilson – Florida State WR

The Patriots fan base should be ecstatic if they land Wilson. He would create a formidable duo with any QB that the Patriots choose. At 6-foot-7, 238 lbs Wilson could be lined up as both a WR or TE. A guy like Wilson would give the Patriots a third young receiver alongside DeMario Douglas and Jalen Reagor.

Pick No. 103 – Cade Stover – Ohio State Tight End

Another selection that the Patriots community should be stoked to get. Henry has done great, but not worth the money the Pats signed him to. He’s very similar to Rob Gronkowski in being an inline TE who can run block and also split out wide and create mismatches. At 6-foot-4, 251 pounds Stover is a fluid athlete with many strengths and not many weaknesses.

Pick No. 136 – Johnny Dixon – Penn State CB

The Patriots also need some help on the defensive side of the ball. Cornerback is one of their biggest needs. Dixon is a fifth-year senior who has started a lot of games dating back to his freshman season. He would fit best into a zone-heavy scheme but could also transition to safety due to his mental processing, zone coverage ability, and run support skills.

Pick No. 180 – Josh Proctor – Ohio State Safety

Proctor holds all of the intangibles needed to be an NFL safety. There are few weaknesses especially with the fact that he struggles to get out of a block. His sixth season has been a bit of a resurgence. Through PFF, he earned an 81.2 defensive grade this season.

Pick No. 229 – Tony Grimes – Texas A&M CB

Going back to the secondary here, the Patriots have the ability to bring in a talented 2024 NFL Draft class. Grimes will need to develop to be successful in the NFL, but as a seventh-round pick the Patriots could be getting a diamond in the rough here. There’s no declaration that he is entering the draft and he didn’t receive any playing time this season. If Grimes decides to stay in college, then the Patriots should go for another DB here.
