Another Week 12 Injury for Jones
During the Week 12 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones suffered a neck strain, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. This injury could leave him sidelined for a few weeks. It is the second straight season that Jones suffered an injury in Week 12. Backup quarterback Mike Glennon will be the starter for Week 13 against the Miami Dolphins.
As a result of the injury, New York signed quarterback Jake Fromm from the Buffalo Bills practice squad to serve as the backup to Glennon.
Can the Giants Win With Glennon?
The last time Glennon played was in Week 5 when he stepped in for Jones after suffering a concussion against the Dallas Cowboys. Glennon completed 16 of 25 passes for 196 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in a loss.
Glennon is 6-21 as a starter in the NFL. He faces a tough matchup against the Dolphins that are sixth in Pro Football Focus’ defensive ratings. There is a good chance the Giants’ offense will struggle with Glennon, especially when it was already struggling with Jones. The Giants (4-7) are currently five-point underdogs against the Dolphins (5-7). Giants Head Coach Joe Judge has much work to do if he wants to bring his team back to playoff contention. It only gets harder with Jones out multiple games.
Unhealthy Offense
The entire offense can’t stay healthy enough to play together and now Jones’ injury is just another instance of how the season is going for the New York Giants. The top offensive weapons for Jones have missed at least two games or more in 12 weeks
Jones has a looming fifth-year option after this season. The last six games were going very important in evaluating whether he should get it or not. The option estimates to be worth approximately $21.3 million. The question of “Is he good enough for a long-term deal?” is still circling Jones after three seasons under his belt. It is now even more uncertain what the Giants will do after this season.
