The frustration is starting to boil over as things have not gone the Mets expected. On Wednesday, May 25, the New York Mets got swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers. That also happened to be their 25th loss of the season. The Dodgers scored six runs in the eighth inning after the game was tied, 3-3. After the Dodgers went ahead, Mets reliever Jorge López argued a check swing that was called a ball. López was tossed by third base Umpire Ramon De Jesus.
While walking off the field, Lopez untucked his jersey and tossed his glove into the crowd.
After the game, Mets Manager Carlos Mendoza stated that the actions were “unacceptable” and that the matters would be dealt with “internally.” After Mendoza made those statements…Jorge López then stated that the Mets are “worst team in the whole f—ing MLB.” Also, stating that he doesn’t regret his actions or care what happens. Those comments could lead to him getting DFA’d.
Make no mistake about it, the beginning of the 2024 season has been a rough one for the Mets. However, as a professional ball player this is no way to act. Since then, López stated on his Instagram story that he used the word “teammate” and that he has been the worst teammate in the MLB. We’ll let you decide on that one, but that’s not what I heard.
The Mets have already lost Edwin Diaz to the Injured List with a shoulder impingement. They could be without Pete Alonso for at least a couple days as well, after he was hit on the hand. So while, things haven’t been smooth sailing for the Mets, they’re also not going to get easier. Especially in regards to their schedule. The Mets will welcome the 2023 National League Champion Arizona Diamondbacks to town.
