The Super Bowl is set now after a thrilling and interesting championship weekend. Here is what happened in the AFC and NFC title games for the NFL.
49ers vs Eagles
This game was basically over by the second quarter. The Eagles would score on their opening drive after a dropped pass on a 4th down that was never reviewed.
For the 49ers, Purdy was hit on the elbow on the second or third play of the game, and it is feared he will need surgery.
This led to Josh Johnson coming in the game. When Johnson was in, Christian McCaffrey got a lot of touches. He had an amazing run that led to the game being 7-7. This would be the last time the 49ers scored however, as Josh Johnson ended up being out in concussion protocol. This would lead to Purdy coming back in, but he did not throw a pass when he came back. Due to this, the Eagles cruised to a 31-7 victory. Miles Sanders scored twice on the ground, with Boston Scott and Jalen Hurts adding in rushing touchdowns as well.
This Eagles team has been the best team all year besides three weeks missing Hurts. The trenches for the Eagles made their presence felt in this game as well, and they might just have the best offensive and defensive lines in football. The Eagles have a strategy of passing first to get the lead, then they wear you down by punishing you on the ground attack. The Eagles will be playing in the Super Bowl for the first time since the Nick Foles run in 2017, and this team seems a bit better than that squad. This Eagles team feels like the team of destiny this season, and it will take a lot to stop them.
After seeing what they did to the number one defense in football, the Chiefs will have a lot to handle and deal with. Nick Sirianni has brought so much new life to this Eagles team, and they look to bring another NFL Super Bowl back to Philly.
Bengals vs Chiefs
Speaking of the Chiefs, they did not seem pleased to hear about Burrowhead all week. Taking an early 13-3 lead, the Chiefs would end up leading 13-6 at half. The game would finish 23-20 chiefs after a really good punt return led them to the 50 yard line, followed by a dumb penalty the Bengals could not afford.
That penalty led to Harrison Butker kicking the game winning FG, sending the Chiefs back to the Super Bowl.
Patrick Mahomes had himself a great game. With the run game not fully being there or the Chiefs just going away from it, it just didn’t matter. Mahomes finished with 326 passing yards and two touchdowns off 29/43 completions. That ankle didn’t seem to bother him until late, but even then he played really good through the pain. That was a legacy game for Mahomes, as he was losing receivers left and right along with his hurt ankle. Marquez Valdez Scantling would be the leading receiver, having 6 catches for 116 and a touchdown. The Chiefs defense did a good job of stopping the Bengals as well. Joe Burrow had no time all night basically, and they made their presence felt.
Once Tyler Boyd left with injury, Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase got doubled and that made life even harder for Joe Burrow. The Bengals were right there until the finish, but it felt like they just did not have enough Oline protection to get the job done. Chiefs vs Eagles is scheduled to meet up in the Super Bowl. It’s the NFLs best team overall vs the best QB in the NFL. This should be a great matchup of two very talented teams. This is also an Andy Reid revenge game, as he used to coach for the Eagles. That just adds more fuel to the fire. Who will be the King of the NFL this season? Will the Chiefs add to their Dynasty? Or will the Eagles take over and try to begin their own Dynasty?
