The NFL has just announced that Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley has been suspended for the entire 2022 NFL season. Ridley was gambling on games while he was inactive last season.
The NFL shows that they have not loosened their gambling rules while fans become more and more free to gamble on games.
This could not come at a worse time for Ridley, but a better time for some other NFL teams. Ridley has been a popular name in trade rumors this offseason. He sat out the majority of the 2021 season due to mental health reasons.
The Falcons were aware and had not been entertaining trade negotiations surrounding Ridley. Both the Browns and Patriots had inquired about him.
The Falcons will save about $11 million in cap space with the news of Ridley’s suspension.
The NFL has announced that Ridley was not with the team at the time he was gambling and they don’t believe any games were compromised.
