The USA women have been dominating the the Olympic basketball tournament. After beating Serbia, the Americans advance to the gold medal game again. The US will be in search of their seventh straight Olympic basketball gold medal.
It was a slow moving first quarter as each time tried to establish themselves. Team USA was able to get out to a lead as they tried to get the bigs in a rhythm, specifically Brittney Griner. The Americans were able to score and Serbia was struggling. The US had the lead 25-10 after one.
Serbia tried to he aggressive to start but the ball would not go in the net. Once again, the quarter started slowly for both teams, but Serbia started to chip away. The US continued to distance themselves but Serbia kept coming. The US a lot of bad turnovers and even though Serbia didn’t always capitalize, it was alarming. Regardless, the US had the halftime lead 41-23.
The US came out fast and Serbia couldn’t answer at the same pace. The USA defense was able to keep Serbia in check. However, Serbia jumped out to an 13-2 run and turnovers continued to pile up. A Chelsea Gray three ended the quarter as the lead was extended 58-39.
There was a bit of a scoring drought in the fourth but it didn’t really matter. Serbia could not catch up. The US extended the lead and didn’t look back. Finally, the US won their 54th Olympic game in a row 79-59.
