The A-Team Moves On

The knockout rounds for the Olympics beach volleyball tournament is in full swing. The USA’s top team of April Ross and Alix Klineman beat the Cuban team of Leila Martinez and Lidianny Echevarria in two sets. They are the first US team to make it past pool play in Tokyo.

Set One

The first set featured errors on both sides. They were neck and neck as both sides were playing well. A timeout was called as the US took a 12-9 lead. Cuba stayed in it and the US had a few more errors. The Americans later went on a 4-1 run and eventually took the first set 21-17. It ended on another error from the Cuban squad.

Set Two

Cuba got out to a 4-0 start. That grew to 6-1. The US went on a run of their own 5-2 run. Lidy took April Ross’s knee to her thigh. She was okay, but interference was called. The US went on a 8-1 run. The Cuban team did everything they could to stay alive. However, the A-Team took it 21-15 to move on to the quarterfinals where Germany awaits.
