After a dominant 41-17 victory against the Minnesota Vikings, the Green Bay Packers extended their win streak to four.
Before week 13, Green Bay held a 4-8 record and needed to win out, but it also had other teams in the hunt to falter. Now holding a record of 8-8, Green Bay did just that and controlled their destiny in a must-win Jan. 8 game, hosting the 8-8 Detroit Lions.
The Packers fan base and quarterback Aaron Rodgers are familiar with late-season winning streaks. In 2010, winning the Super Bowl as a sixth seed after being 3-3 at one point in the season. Then in 2016, holding a record of 4-6 and winning out to finish 10-6, along with an NFC Championship appearance.
With a win against Detroit, the Packers clinched the seventh seed after an up-and-down year. With starting the season 3-1, Green Bay couldn’t buy another win and lost five straight, along with questions of Rodgers’ future rising. However, both Rodgers and Green Bay conquered adversity and remained a dangerous team to face once December and January football came around.
Green Bay may not have the prettiest of teams after explosive offenses in 2020 and 2021, but this Packers team will beat any team with physicality on both ends of the ball. First, offensively the running back duo of Aaron Jones and AJ Dillion to set up the play-action play for Rodgers. Then defensively, with the stout secondary play with cornerback Jaire Alexander leading the way, along with the return of linebacker De’Vondre Campbell making an impact in the run and passing game. To go along with the offense and defense, the emergence of special teams returner Keisean Nixon has continued to set up the offense with excellent field position, along with a 105-yard return touchdown against Minnesota.
In 2016, Rodgers famously coined the phrase, ‘run the table,’ and this season, Rodgers coined the term, ‘we’re not dead yet’ as the theme of possibly going on another playoff run.
