Former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley may find his next opportunity with the Green Bay Packers. Staley is going to interview with the team about their defensive coordinator opening. The Packers fired their previous defensive coordinator, Joe Barry after losing to the 49ers in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs. This is the Packer’s first interview for their defensive coordinator position.

The Chargers fired Staley during the regular season after losing to the Las Vegas Raiders by 42 points. The Chargers fell to 5-9 overall. Staley went 24-24 in three seasons with the Los Angeles.

The former Charger head coach was a defensive coordinator in 2020 with the Los Angeles Rams. Staley led the Rams to a league-best finish in points allowed and total yards allowed. This is Staley’s only experience as a defensive coordinator. During Staley’s time with the Chargers, the team ranked 29th, 21st, and 24th in points allowed.

The Packers are not the only team to have an interest in Brandon Staley. According to Adam Schefter, The 41-year-old will interview the Dolphins for their DC opening, and the Rams are also rumored to be interested in a reunion with Staley.

After just one season as DC, Miami fired Vic Fangio. He has since accepted the DC position with the Eagles. The Dolphins need a significant replacement, and their upcoming interview with Staley will be the first. Although the Dolphin’s defense was decimated by injuries during the playoffs, Miami often underperformed compared to expectations during the season.

Staley’s Chargers never finished higher than 20th in total defense, despite his experience. This, along with a decline in offensive production in 2023, led to the team’s decision to fire both him and general manager Tom Telesco. The Raiders have since hired Telesco to be their GM, but it will be intriguing to watch where Staley ends up.
