One of the hottest commodities in the sports media world, Pat McAfee will be returning to College GameDay in the fall. McAfee announced the news himself on the Pat McAfee Show.
This is big news for College GameDay. Their viewership numbers were up last year with McAfee joining. He brought some youthful energy to the show, which was needed. That energy drew in the younger crowds. He has some crazy and a bit obnoxious takes at times. But let’s be honest… doesn’t every media personality or fan? In 2024, that viewership may go up even higher with Nick Saban joining.
“When my contract came up,” McAfee stated in the breaking news video. “After living a dream alongside that crew that is just as talented off camera as they are on camera, I thought long and hard. ‘Am I the right person to be doing this incredible gig? There are millions and millions of people that would love to be sitting in my seat. Am I the right guy for it? Is this what I want to do?’ The only thing that I kept coming back to is, ‘Hell fucking yeah.’ I’m lucky, I’m honored, I’m humbled. I’m grateful, and I’m back.”
There was a high likelihood that a deal would get worked out, but as of a month ago… no dotted lines were signed. McAfee later went on to state more about his decision to return. He also blasted the ESPN lawyer who was against it.
With Pat McAfee heading back to College GameDay, some questions for WWE will arise. How will they move forward with their broadcast teams? McAfee and Michael Cole have been phenomenal together. Can the WWE keep McAfee on Mondays?
