Pete Carroll, the Seattle Seahawks head coach since 2010, is expected to be fired as the team goes in a different direction. Carroll led the Seahawks to multiple Super Bowl appearances, winning one of the two Super Bowls in 2014, against the Denver Broncos and Peyton Manning. They would have won two if it was not for Malcolm Butler picking it off, which was one of the notable moments in Super Bowl-Era history.

Carroll had a historic run as the head coach in Seattle, being a force in the NFC for years on years, but that slowly diminished when the likes of Russell Wilson, Kam Chancellor, Earl Thomas, Bobby Wagner, Richard Sherman, Doug Baldwin, and Marshawn Lynch passed their prime or left the team for a better opportunity.

Seahawks Owner Jody Allen issued a statement shortly after the expected firing of Pete Carroll:

It is the end of an era in Seattle, as Pete Carroll will no longer be running the Seahawks out of the tunnel. I believe it had nothing to do with the success of the team, but that they needed a new voice for the new group of players. He did the best he could after Russell Wilson went to Denver, as they made the playoffs last season. The Seahawks will be eyeing a new face to run this team out of the tunnel every Sunday, and Pete Carroll could potentially find a head coaching job nearby after he is officially fired.

The team could be looking at a lot of options, maybe they want a younger guy to lead this historic franchise for the sake of how young the team is, or they could be looking for a proven head coach. Some options that come to mind are Eric Bieniemy, Brian Flores, Aaron Glenn, and Mike MacDonald. Flores is a proven head coach, as he led the Dolphins to the playoffs before Mike McDaniel took over, but aside from that the other candidates listed are coordinators who are deserving of a chance but are not proven. If the Seahawks want an offensive-minded coach, they should consider Eric Bieniemy and Ben Johnson, but if they want a defensive-minded coach, they should consider Brian Flores and Mike MacDonald. There are a lot of things to consider hereafter Carroll being fired.

Carroll will stay in an advisory role with the Seahawks. For years, he has also been the VP of Football Operations. Its likely that he could stay in that role for several seasons.
