Over the last few days, the number of teams’ potential Odell Beckham Jr suitors has grown. Teams are hoping to capture who Beckham Jr was when he last played. The last time Beckham appeared in a game was during the super bowl where he caught the first touchdown pass. At 30 years old the superstar wide receiver still has plenty in the tank and wants financial security. As well as to sustain his legacy before his career is over.
Odell Beckham Jr’s Private Workout
Beckham Jr held a private workout a week ago in Arizona to show off his rehab progress from tearing his ACL a second time in the same knee. A number of teams sent scouts to watch the workout to see how well he is progressing. Above all, the teams that showed up to his workout were impressed by the physical shape he was in. It is being reported that he has no shortage of suitors this offseason wanting to sign. However, that number continues to grow during this first week of free agency.
Odell Beckham Jr Suitors and Potential Landing Spots
As of now the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs are now showing interest in signing Beckham Jr. The Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills, New York Jets/Giants, and Cleveland Browns have all been interested. Of those teams, Dallas has been the most talked about to land Beckham. The interest for the Cowboys dates back to last December but they deemed Beckham Jr as not a realistic contributor last season. Dallas recently released their star running back Ezekiel Elliot which created more cap space for a potential signing. As well the Chiefs lost a big receiver this off-season so there is potential room to sign him there as well. The same can be said for the Ravens who are in the middle of contract negotiations with star quarterback Lamar Jackson. Signing a receiver the magnitude of Beckham Jr would go a long way in retaining Jackson.
Financial Demands
There have been several wide receivers that agreed to new contracts this week. But Beckham Jr is the biggest name that hasn’t been signed. Given that the wide receiver market has not been as robust as many had expected. With that being the reality Beckham Jr is still looking for a multiyear deal that will be worth between 15-20 million dollars. That may be a hard sell for teams looking for talent and depth in the wide receiver market. For fear that he could potentially become injury prone and not be the same person, he was two seasons ago. At 30 years old Beckham Jr is past his prime.
It is important to realize that if Beckham Jr gets the type of deal he wants. That would then make him the highest-paid wide receiver this free agency period. Free agents Allen Lazard and Jakobi Meyers both signed new deals that will be paying them both 11 million annually. The standard has been set for the wide receiver market. In due time we will find out where Beckham Jr signs and how much his deal will be worth.
