The Packers will visit the divisional rival Lions this Sunday in their first matchup of the season this Sunday at Ford Field. The two teams find themselves at the bottom of the division after starting the season with playoff aspirations. Both teams are looking to end their respective losing streaks. And for at least one time, there may be jobs at stake.
Green Bay comes in on a four-game losing streak with their most recent coming from a surging Buffalo Bills. At 3-5 they find themselves in a position they haven’t been in since Mike McCarthys release. The fans have no issues voicing their displeasure and after another trade deadline in which the Packers made no moves, are more irritated that ever. They’re not alone, as the Rodgers and LaFleur have both expressed a sense of urgency as we head into November.
The flagship of problems the Packers have had this season is the lack of WR depth/a deep threat. Many fans were looking to see Chase Claypool, Brandin Cooks, or even DJ Moore end up on the roster at the deadline. They were met with predictable disappointment. But offensive line problems have also been a factor. They dealt with injuries and mixed the starting five around, but they have yet to put together a complete game. The Lion’s defense has been putrid, so now is the chance to right the ship if not for the sole reason their schedule gets a lot tougher after Sunday. But the team is not taking anything for granted.
Meanwhile, the Lions are having a season… well like the Lions. Many viewed them as a dark horse candidate for a wildcard position but instead there are rumblings of Dan Campbell getting fired. He was a huge fan favorite from Hard Knocks during training camp, but the product just isn’t translating onto the field. They already fired their DB coach Aubrey Pleasant, but many are questioning if that’s simply the first domino of many.
