In previous years, the Los Angeles Rams had to worry if head coach Sean McVay would return the following season. Sean McVay is changing that up this time, announcing that he will return in 2024.
McVay addressed his future while speaking on the “Coach McVay Show.” After he was asked if there would be a 2024 edition of the show, McVay responded, “That I can promise you.”
Sean McVay contemplated his future in Los Angeles after the 2021 and 2022 seasons, but it looks like he has already made up his mind on coaching in 2024 before the end of the 2023 season.
McVay has coached the Rams since 2017. He began his NFL coaching career back in 2008 as an assistant wide receivers coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. McVay later became an offensive coordinator for the Washington Redskins, a position he held from 2014-16 before eventually becoming the head coach of the Rams.
McVay is just 37 years old, and his contract with Los Angeles runs until the end of the 2026 season. In his seven seasons with the team, the Rams have had a losing record just once. In 2022, McVay coached the Rams to their first Super Bowl victory since 2000. McVay’s Rams also made the Super Bowl in 2019, where they lost to the New England Patriots.
In 114 regular season games with the Rams, McVay has a record of 69-45. In the postseason, Los Angeles is 7-3 under McVay.
The Rams are currently 9-7 this season and have locked up a playoff spot after a 26-25 win over the New York Giants in Week 17. With a victory against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, McVay will reach the double-digit win mark for the fifth time.
