Nathan Eovaldi Is Heading To The Texas Rangers.
Nathan Eovaldi and the Texas Rangers are in agreement on a two-year, 34M$ deal. This deal includes a third-year vesting player option. Eovaldi, who has become one of the more dominant pitchers in the AL East in recent years, is heading to Arlington after being one of the few remaining starting pitchers in this free agent class.
In 2022, Nathan Eovaldi put up a 3.87 ERA and a 1.235 WHIP with 103 strikeouts over 109.1 innings pitched. This solid season comes only a year after Eovaldi came in fourth in Cy Young voting after his all-star 2021 season.
The Texas Rangers continue to bolster their pitching staff. This signing of Nathan Eovaldi comes just weeks after they secured one of the greatest right-handed pitchers we have seen, Jacob DeGrom. The current rotation for the Rangers looks like:
- Jacob DeGrom
- Nathan Eovaldi
- Martin Perez
- Jon Gray
- Jake Odorizzi/Dane Dunning
On top of this absolute powerhouse of a rotation, the Rangers still have more coming. Not through signings, but through prospects. In 2021, Texas drafted Vanderbilt fireballer, Jack Leiter. And only a year after that, Texas drafted his former Vanderbilt teammate, Kumar Rocker. This Texas Rangers pitching staff is starting to look scary, and it’s only going to get more scary in the next couple years to come.

Nathan Eovaldi is coming off a Red Sox tenure which is bound to land him in the Red Sox Hall of Fame. After being acquired at the trade deadline from the Tampa Bay Rays in 2018, Eovaldi was one of the key pieces in bringing the Red Sox another championship later in the season.
Game 3 of the 2018 World Series was an 18-inning bruiser which eventually ended with a Dodger win. However, Red Sox nation will look back on this game fondly. As in this game, Nathan Eovaldi pitched six relief innings after coming into the game in the 12th inning.
Nate was scheduled to be the starter in the next game, but that didn’t stop him from putting the team on his back and grinding to the end of the game, which eventually ended with a Max Muncy walk-off home run. And even after this brutal loss, Nate still walked into Alex Cora’s office and asked if he could still start in Game 4. In which Alex Cora said no.
“That’s the epitome of reaching down deep.”
After this insane performance from Eovaldi, Red Sox pitcher, Rick Porcello, had some fond words for his teammate:
“That was the most incredible pitching performance I’ve ever seen,” Porcello said. “Actually after the game was over, I started crying because that was — I mean, he’s grinding. Every pitch. He literally gave everything he had on every single pitch, and it was special. It was a lot of fun to watch. That’s the epitome of reaching down deep. I’m really proud of him.”
It has been a fun ride watching Nasty Nate take the mound in Boston in these past few years, but we wish him the best in his time in Texas. As for now, the Red Sox continue to wander in a direction that leaves many of us scratching our heads. And we continue to watch more Red Sox greats walk out the door.
