Prior to the pandemic, most famous European clubs played in a pre-season competition known as the International Champions Cup (ICC). Teams would come up against eachother to practice tactics, grow the team chemistry and bond, as well as gain momentum and fitness for the upcoming season. However, due to the travel restrictions the pandemic brought, the competition had to be abolished for two years. Rumor has it that the competition will resume this year, but nothing is confirmed. This time around, Madrid will be playing in a new tournament called the Soccer Champions Tour.
When will Real be back in training?
Real Madrid are expected to be back in training by the first week of July.
Who will Los Blancos take on?
Real Madrid take on their fierce rivals FC Barcelona, Mexican giants Club América and the Italian powerhouse Juventus. These games against well known and serious opposition will give Real the tests required to go into the new season prepared.
Where and When will these games take place?
El Clasico will be played in Las Vegas on the 23rd of July and Oracle Park welcomes Club América and Real Madrid for the penultimate game of the competition on July 26th. Juventus and Real will wrap up the competition on the 30th of July at the Rose Bowl stadium in Los Angeles.
These fixtures will give Carlo Ancelotti and his team the opportunity to get back into mental and physical readiness for the upcoming season. The new signings will have chances to bond with their new teammates and build friendships. New tactics and philosophies can also be introduced and practiced throughout this tournament.
Though it’s unlikely, Real Madrid want to defend both their titles. In order to do this, preparation for each match must be near perfect.
Youth players will also be given the opportunity to impress throughout the tournament.
