Red Bull has finally won the Formula 1 and Constructors Cup titles again. Max Verstappen clinched his second drivers’ title in a row a few weeks ago in rainy Japan and he sealed the constructor’s cup by winning the United States Grand Prix in Austin on Sunday securing Red Bull the double their first building everything themselves. This was a bittersweet championship for Red Bull Racing with their founder Dietrich Mateschitz, passing away this week. But, what a way to honor him by reclaiming the constructor’s cup and repeating as F1 Champions. This broke a drought of 9 years since when Sebastian Vettel last won Red Bull both titles.

Vroom Vroom Verstappen

Max Verstappen claimed his second consecutive Formula One Drivers Championship on October 9th in Japan. Last year’s title was awarded after the last race of the season. This year Verstappen clinched with four races remaining the, earliest since Nigel Mansell with five, and Michael Schumacher the record holder with six races left. The finish might not have been as exciting as last season ending on the last lap. There was still plenty of controversy. Due to horrible conditions caused by heavy rain, the race was red-flagged. Restarting and finishing through the rain Verstappen did not know if he had won the title. After the race, it was determined that Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc was to be assessed a five-second penalty for leaving the track. This clinched the victory for Verstappen.

RBPT

Lewis Hamilton may have lost to Verstappen last season for the drivers’ championship; however, Mercedes won the Constructors cup for the eighth straight time in 2014-2022. Red Bull had previously won the Constructors cup four times, but always with a Renault engine. In 2018 they cut ties with Renault. Then, in 2022 they formed RBPT (Red Bull Powertrain). This replaced Honda as the engine builder for the team. This title gave them their first constructors cup solely built by Red Bull. What a way to honor their founder.
