Report: Jordan Poole May Not Be Part of Wizards Future Plans

Many may remember, the blockbuster trade that sent Washington Wizards Guard Jordan Poole to D.C. in exchange for Chris Paul, who landed with the Golden State Warriors.

NBA Insider Marc Stein thinks that Poole could be on the move again. He believes that Washington views him as a trade piece rather than a franchise player. This might be due to the fact that they’ve had a dreadful 2-11 start. In the midst of that Poole has had a rough start to the year.

Stein examined whether the Wizards are trying to rebuild trade value for Jordan Poole to flip him, or keep him as a “cornerstone player,” this is what Marc Stein said:

“My sense, from speaking to various league observers,” Stein said (h/t Inside the Wizards). “is that more believe it is the former rather than the latter.”

Poole was an important player during his time with the Warriors. In fact, he was a vital member of the 2022 championship run. Despite his good performances, he was always in the shadows of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. He gained a lot of experience from those two that he could apply to a new team, such as the Wizards.

“Obviously, I wanted to be in a position to have my own team,” Poole said. “Luckily, I’m able to do that so young, after learning from some of the best.”

Poole is happy to have his own team now. Though, its uncertain if the Wizards will allow him to continue playing the role he has. The shooting numbers are down this season, with Jordan Poole shooting 39.6 percent from the field and 28.4 percent from 3-point range for the Wizards. Those numbers are far below his career averages of 42 percent and 33.6% percent, respectively. The free throw percentage is also down from 87.7 to 83.8 percent.

The experiment between Kyle Kuzma and Poole doesn’t seem to be working out. The Wizards are in the midst of a rebuild and trying to find their identity. Although the trade value for Poole may be decent, it doesn’t really make sense for the Wizards to trade him. He might not be ready to lead his own team yet, but he’s also just 24 years old.
