Since the start of their rebuild, the Washington Wizards have been searching for an electrifying guard who can score the ball at all three levels. The front office traded for the Warriors rising star, Jordan Poole, hoping he could bring a spark to D.C. Though he has not lived up to expectations, plenty of life remains in the tank.
Long story short, Poole struggled for Washington last season. He made careless mistakes, turned the ball over, and attempted overly-contested jump shots.
By the trade deadline, rumors surfaced that the Wizards were looking to move on from Poole. Teams were certainly interested, but a deal did not fully come together. This was a blessing in disguise for the city of Washington.
Jordan Poole will redeem himself as a star for the Washington Wizards next season.
Despite a disappointing first year in Washington, Jordan Poole will re-solidify himself as a three-level star in the NBA today. Each time he steps on the court, he puts on a show, breaking ankles and soaring to the cup. The former NBA champion will lead the Wizards into the playoffs with a new coach and stronger supporting cast.
Poole concluded last season with signs of confidence and composure, giving fans a sense of optimism heading into the summer. During a 16-game stretch in April, the Michigan standout showed significant progress, averaging 19.3 points and 5.3 assists while shooting 44.6% from the field and 35.3% from three.
More importantly, Poole was playing impactful basketball. He was making the right plays, combining a flashy playstyle with improved shot selection. This created a sense of urgency within his game, coercing the coaching staff to give him minutes.
With an underrated front court in Alex Sarr and Jonas Valančiūnas, Poole is poised for a dominant year two in Washington. If he crushes expectations, the Wizards could establish themselves as a top-eight seed in the Eastern Conference.
