More than a year ago, Mercedes Mone, also known as Sasha Banks left the WWE. Some could suspect why she did with Vince McMahon in creative but she went to New Japan stating that they have “higher standards for female wrestlers.”
It was in May 2022 that both Naomi and Banks walked out of the WWE, Though, it appears that she may be returning soon. There were rumors that she would never return, but we’ve apparently seen “Hell Freeze Over” because multiple wrestlers were also rumored never to return have. This week, Mercedes Mone added some fuel to the speculation that she could be returning to the WWE by sharing photos on her Instagram of Funko POP! Vinyls, all of which are based on her Sasha Banks WWE tenure.
A lot has changed with the landscape of the WWE since Mone left. The company has been sold to Endeavor and Paul “Triple H” Levesque has taken over control of creative. When he was the head of NXT, Triple H has worked closely with Mone. As of now, there are no obstacles in the way for the WWE and Mone to agree to terms. While AEW has shared an interest in signing top-tier talent and her contract with New Japan has expired.
Not to mention Booker T who has helped develop talent over the years, says that a potential return is a done deal.
“It seems like she’s been gone too long,” Booker T stated on his podcast. I hope she comes back, man. Can you think about all the badass matches we can see again? And it’s not like she was gone that long ago.”
The WWE Hall of Famer currently serves as a commentator on NXT. He stated that she would be worth every penny that she wanted and the WWE has the money to sign her.
“I mean, what has it been a year or so, a year and a half or something like that? And you never know. And the thing is, obviously there’s a new regime in town. There’s a different way of thinking in town. Maybe some of the issues that she was not too pleased with before are no longer a factor. It says it on his shirt, Hell froze over and CM Punk came back after ten years. You know what I mean? There’s a lane for Sasha Banks to stash Mercedes Mone, and I’m making a prediction. I’m calling it. She’s back in 2024. In WWE, it’s a done deal in my mind.”
