Things move quickly in the NBA, which fans were reminded of on Friday. After becoming a strong contender to land Toronto’s Pascal Siakam earlier in the day, Shams Charania reported that the Sacramento Kings have decided to pull out of the race for the 29-year-old.
The Kings looked to add Siakam to form a solid trio with De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis.
There could be multiple reasons why the Sacramento and Toronto trade talks are now over. One of the reasons is that the asking price was too much for the Kings. There also is the possibility that Siakam would not agree to re-sign with Sacramento if traded there.
Siakam is one of the most talked about trade deadline targets this season. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, which will make teams hesitant to give away a lot if there is no guarantee he will sign long-term once traded.
According to TSN’s Josh Lewenberg, there is a chance Pascal Siakam will sign an extension with the Raptors despite the talks surrounding a possible trade. He is still likely to be moved by the trade deadline, as Toronto hopes to bring in more young pieces to fit around RJ Barrett and Scottie Barnes.
The Current Favorites To Land Siakam
With the Sacramento Kings out of the running for Pascal Siakam, the focus will be on the other teams still seriously interested in the two-time All-Star. One of those teams is the Detroit Pistons, who, despite their poor record, could be buyers at the trade deadline. Another team to look out for is the Indiana Pacers. They are serious contenders to land Siakam, according to Yahoo Sports’ Jake Fischer. The Pacers just missed out on OG Anunoby and have been linked to Siakam for a while now.
