Sacramento Likely to Host A’s in 2025, 2026

Sacramento

The Athletics will be headed to Las Vegas, but not until 2027. There’s only one problem… their current deal with Oakland ends following the 2024 season. So they’d have to find somewhere to play temporarily between 2024 and 2027. One of the places that the A’s are likely to play during 2025, 2026 is Sutter Health Park in Sacramento, according to Evan Drellich of The Athletic. Currently the home of the Triple-A River Cats, the park seats more than 14,000.

Although, a return to the Oakland Coliseum and a temporary move to Salt Lake City isn’t out of the picture either. The Athletics met with the City of Oakland earlier this week to discuss staying in Oakland until they officially move to Las Vegas.

Still, Sacramento may be the leading spot to land the A’s temporarily following the 2024 MLB season. No matter where the Athletics decide to play temporarily, the MLB and MLB Players Association will approve of the short-term home before any deal can be finalized.

“The reality of the situation is that whenever you’re leaving a market where you’ve been for decades, and you’re going to make a move to a different city where there’s not a stadium, that’s a really difficult undertaking, and it’s not going to be seamless, smooth — there are going to be bumps along the road,” Manfred said, per Drellich.

From a TV revenue standpoint, the short-term move to Sacramento wouldn’t make the most sense. However, it would allow the organization to keep a considerable portion of the money they are owed. Even then, with it being just a short-term move the A’s probably wouldn’t be worried too much about the TV revenue.
