Robert Saleh Denies Report of Reluctancy to Start from Wilson

Jets Recap

The New York Jets recently made another switch at QB, with the benching of Zach Wilson. Though, Aaron Rodgers is on the verge of returning to play. The Jets have been “leaning towards starting Wilson” again. Earlier reports stated that Wilson would be reluctant to resume the starter role. Jets HC Robert Saleh that the report of reluctancy to start from Wilson isn’t true:

“If he was reluctant to play, guys, he wouldn’t be here,” Saleh told reporters.

The reports stated that the reason for that reluctancy is due to the risk of injury.

“The young man wants the ball, he wants to start, and believes he’s the best quarterback in the room and the best quarterback for this team and the guy who gives us the best chance to win. And I’ll tell you guys the same thing I told him. I appreciate it, I appreciate the fact that he wants to play, I’m just not there yet.”

The Jets have yet to name a starter for their week 14 matchup against the Houston Texans. One could obviously understand where Wilson is coming from though if Saleh wanted him to start again. The 24-year-old has been benched multiple times in the past two seasons.

The Jets offense has struggled to get anything going this season. They’ve only scored two offensive touchdowns since week nine. That marks the fewest amount of points offensively in that span. Until Rodgers is ready to go, the choices for Saleh are limited: give Boyle another shot, spin the Siemen wheel, or turn back to Wilson again.

The Jets still have a chance to make the playoffs, but the offense must get better if they’re looking to make it.
