Many reports have expected that Geno Smith is likely to remain with the Seattle Seahawks. While that still may be true, they also have their eyes on quarterbacks in this year’s NFL Draft. Specifically, the Seahawks are eyeing QB prospects in the first round.

The Seattle Seahawks have a rare opportunity heading into the 2023-24 NFL Calendar season. Not only is their window of competing open, but they have the draft capital that could help propel them to multiple Super Bowl victories. In the 2023 NFL Draft, the Seahawks have two first-round picks. While many reporters and mock drafts have them taking a defensive player early on. Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll is not leaving out the opportunity to draft a young quarterback:

“The position we’re in, we are totally connected to the quarterbacks that are coming out,” Carroll said. “This is a really huge opportunity for us. It’s a rare opportunity.”

While defensive line help is needed in Seattle, the Seahawks are using a best-player-available approach with their No. 5 pick. If a can’t-miss quarterback prospect like Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud falls to them, this could present the “rare” chance that Carroll is eluding to.

“We’ve been drafting in the low 20s for such a long time, you just don’t get the chance (at) these guys,” Carroll said. “So we’re deeply involved with them.”

Stroud may not be the only QB prospect that the Seahawks have their eyes on either. Bryce Young, Anthony Richardson, and Will Levis are all projected to go in the top-10 as well.

The Seahawks QB situation may get interesting this summer. They still plan on deploying Smith as the starter for at least another year. Potentially placing a franchise tag on their Pro Bowl quarterback. However, Carroll, general manager John Schneider, and the rest of the front office may be trying to figure out what’s best moving forward.

With teams continuing to be in playoff contention year after year, top-five picks don’t come very often, but due to trading a franchise QB in Russell Wilson, the Seahawks got a massive haul prior to the 2022 NFL Season.
