To end an insane Week 1 of the 2022 NFL Season, Russell Wilson made his return to Seattle to take on his backup Geno Smith and the team he left this offseason. It is also that same Geno Smith who led the Seahawks to a massive upset, spoiling Wilson’s return. Brandon McManus failed to hit a 64 Yard Field Goal at the end of the game to give them a 2 point lead with less than 30 seconds to play, but the Broncos problems tonight go farther than just a missed kick.
While Russ played well, throwing for 340 Yards and 1 TD, the rest of the team failed to help him at all. He was under constant pressure all night, almost like Seattle’s O-line followed him to Denver. The defense also could not stop Geno Smith in the first half, who looked very comfortable all night and was confident in the pocket. The Broncos clock management at the end of the game was also horrid, it reminded me of the Giants a few years ago.
On the flip side, the Hawks stopped the Broncos inside the 10 Yard line 4 times, only allowing 2 field goals, and forcing 2 fumbles on the 1 yard line. Russ never once looked comfortable and was constantly being pressured. The loss of Adams was big but the defense still found a way to make it happen. But tonight was the Geno Smith show, and boy did he prove the doubters wrong.
“They all wrote me off, but I didn’t write back.”

The Seahawks end week 1 at the top of the NFC West with a showdown coming in week 2 against the 49ers, while the Broncos head home to host the Texans who shocked everyone against the Colts this week and tied.
