Get out your brooms! Last weekend, Arkansas captured the team title for both the men and the women at the SEC Indoor Championships. The Razorbacks have now swept the SEC Indoor Championship team titles for four years in a row. The other teams in the NCAA’s most competitive conference did not disappoint in this meet, as multiple meet records were broken.
Team Scores:
Arkansas’ men won by a comfortable margin. The Razorback’s horizontal jumps were their strong suit, as they totaled 30 points across the long and triple jump. Sophomore Wayne Pinnock took second in the long jump, while senior Carey McLeod placed third. Freshman triple jumper Jaydon Hibbert had one of the most impressive performances of the indoor season, jumping 17.10 meters (56 feet, 1 1/4 inch), placing him first in the NCAA and sixth in the world at just 18 years old.
The women’s team won by an even greater amount, securing their ninth-straight SEC Indoor Championship. Arkansas’ women scored highly in multiple different events. In the 400-meter dash, juniors Amber Anning and Rosey Effiong placed second and fourth, while sophomores Joanne Reid and Nickisha Price placed fifth and sixth. Senior Lauren Gregory won the 3000 meters and women’s mile. She set a new meet record in the mile with a time of 4:31.96. Arkansas also scored second and third-place finishes in the 5000 meters.
