SVG dominated on the road course once again this past Sunday, leading 38 of 90 laps—including the final 17—and cruised his way to another road course victory.

This win marked his fourth win on the year, etching his name into the history books as he now has the most wins as a rookie in Cup Series history.

This win breaks a tie with two former champions in Jimmie Johnson and Tony Stewart, and also ties him with Denny Hamlin for the most wins in the 2025 Cup Series season.

Some more positives for SVG, this win comes just days after he announces a multi-year contract extension with Trackhouse Racing.

These accomplishments go along with the many other records he has either set or broken this year, let’s take a look at how he did it again on Sunday.

RECAP

Ryan Blaney was the talk of the garage on Saturday as he out-qualified SVG to win the pole for Sunday’s Go Bowling at the Glen.

Blaney was happy to beat the series’ top road-racer, but acknowledged that it would be a different story come race day.

“Ninety laps is going to be a little harder to beat him tomorrow” Blaney stated, “but gotta start somewhere.”

This performance marked the 150th pole that Team Penske has earned in the Cup Series.

Seven laps into the race, Kyle Larson reports on his radio that he has “no brakes” and spins out entering turn one.

Larson would go behind the wall for repairs, and would return to the race later 15 laps down.

With just a few laps left in stage one, the leaders pit and work on strategy, allowing playoff bubble driver Chris Buescher to gain some much needed stage points.

As stage two gets underway, Josh Berry makes contact with a couple other drivers and spins into the wall coming out of turn 5.

The debris from his wreck brought out the lone caution for incident of the day.

After some more strategy, Blaney stays out to clinch the stage two victory and pick up a playoff point.

Stage three involved a lot of strategy calls and team communication.

After SVG, Ross Chastain, and others pit, Chase Briscoe is credited with the lead.

However, he would soon pit and give the lead back to SVG as green flag pit stops cycle out.

From there, he would lead all the way to the checkered flag and seal the victory, winning over Christopher Bell by 11.116 seconds.

Bell passed Chris Buescher on the final lap to gain the extra position, putting last year’s Watkins Glen winner in third.

William Byron has a solid day finishing 4th and extending his regular-season points lead to 42 over Chase Elliott.

Chase Briscoe finishes 5th after a late-race charge.

FLAGS OF THE WEEK

My green flag of the week belongs to Trackhouse Racing. After re-signing SVG this week, the team finishes all three of their full-time cars in the top 10 for the first time in team history. Ross Chastain has been consistent all year, and we know how good SVG is on road courses, but to see Daniel Suarez run just as well with his teammates in his final year with the team is great to see.

This week’s yellow flag is simply who could possibly beat SVG on the road courses? Watkins Glen is a track that drivers in the Cup Series have raced at for years. They should be able to be competing with the #88 car, but were not able to do so. Now, fans like to mention that SVG can’t perform like this on the ovals, but he’s not too far off. He has gone from running 25th-30th every week, to now running more 15th-20th. If he figures out the ovals, look out.

My red flag is going to be the car. The NextGen car has always been in discussions on NASCAR social media with fans trashing it and calling for a change. I thought the race wasn’t that bad on Sunday, and it got overshadowed by SVG’s dominance, but the fans were still calling it a poor showing after struggles to pass and other issues. I believe it is time for a change as well and think the NextGen car was not the success NASCAR thought it would be.

THE NEXT RACE

The NASCAR Cup Series will take on the daunting Richmond Raceway Saturday night at 7:30pm EST on USA.
