Is the Sun Belt the new SEC?

They did it… Again! The Mountaineers of Appalachian State found themselves in the win column versus Top 10 opponents once again, previously against Michigan in 2007 but this time was this past Saturday at College Station. The Mountaineers celebrated in astonishing fashion after a great win against a Top 10 team in number 6 Texas A&M. Though their win was quite spectacular, they weren’t the only Sun Belt member that took down a Goliath in spectacular fashion.

GATA!
GATA! (Get After Their A**es) This was the team-wide mantra that powered the Eagles of Georgia Southern past a historical powerhouse in the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Eagles were driven by a very underrated coach in Clay Helton as well as rising star quarterback Kyle Vantrease. They put up a total of 642 yards of offense which proved to be too much for the once well-known “Blackshirt” defense of the Huskers. As a result, Nebraska has decided to go in a different direction in regards to the leader at the helm and has since fired Head Coach Scott Frost.

We Are Marshall!
And last but certainly not least, the Marshall Thundering Herd strolled into South Bend and pulled the rug right out from under Notre Dame, the number 8 in the country as well as a respected Top 5 historical program of all time. The Herd provided a hungry and ferocious defense that showcased a “Take No Prisoners” mentality. This game adds another loss to new coach Marcus Freeman’s record which now stands at 0-3 since taking over the Irish. I think it’s safe to say that even Rudy couldn’t have helped the Irish overcome the beastly Herd they faced on Saturday.
