2024 NBA Trade Deadline

We are just over a week away from the 2024 NBA trade deadline, which takes place on Feb 8. Already we have seen many big names traded. Names like Pascal Siakam who was traded to Indiana, OG Anunoby who was traded to New York, Marvin Bagley to the Wizards. There was also the Terry RozierKyle Lowry swap. Here are five guards who could be in different uniforms after the 2024 NBA trade deadline.

Malcolm Brogdon, Portland Trail Blazers Guard

The Portland Trail Blazers may not want to trade Brogdon just yet. However, if they got the right offer it would be worth it to consider the option. Brogdon has served as a valuable veteran to Anfernee Simons, Shaedon Sharpe and Scoot Henderson. He’s helped Portland win many of their games this season, but the Blazers are in a rebuild. The Blazers could get a decent trade package in return for Brogdon, who would help many teams out in a push for the playoffs. The 2022-23 Sixth man of the year is valuable. He could start or come off the bench. Many teams are interersted which makes him one of the most likely candidates to be traded.

Dejounte Murray, Atlanta Hawks Guard

It’s clear that the Hawks are looking for a new start. Moving Murray would represent a substantial change that they could make this season. The backcourt of Murray and Trae Young has not worked out like they had hoped. The Hawks gave up a lot to get Murray and the hope was that they could pair Young, who is better known for his offense with a more defensive guard like Dejounte. He’s made some strides from beyond the arc this season. The intriguing part for the team that gets Murray is that he just signed a four-year, $114 million extension this summer, which means he’s locked up long-term. They likely won’t get back what they paid for him, but they could get a first and a prospect.

Zach LaVine, Chicago Bulls Guard

Things aren’t working out in Chicago, it’s likely that we’ll see a break up sooner rather than later. LaVine is arguably the hottest name remaining on the market. Both he and the Bulls are open to deals. The only thing that may hold back a deal here, is LaVine’s contract. He is owed $178 million through the 2026-27 season, which includes a player option. Many teams have been interested, however. A deal for LaVine could include a first round pick, maybe two due to how weak the 2024 NBA Draft is.

Kyle Kuzma, Washington Wizards Forward

The Wizards should be in no rush to trade Kuzma. He just signed a four-year, $90 million contract which is viewed as a bargain. Kuzma, 27, is a bit underrated as shooter and shot creator on the wing. His defense is average according to the rest of the league. According to reports, Washington is looking to receive two first-round picks or equivalent value. Though, what they’ll likely get is a first and a prospect.

DeMar DeRozan, Chicago Bulls Guard

DeRozan is another who could get some trade interest. He’s expected to be a free agent this offseason so he’d likely be a rental for a team that needs another scorer. He can be a third scorer on a winning team. I think he’s got some gas left in the tank. He just needs a chance to prove it. Due to how weak this year’s draft is, the Bulls get a pick in the 20’s back fo DeRozan.

Bojan Bogdanovic, Detroit Pistons Forward

Just like the 2023 NBA Trade deadline, Bogdanovic is one player who could gauge some interest in 2024. The Pistons passed on trading him for two-firsts from a contender last year. This time around, it may be different. The Pistons are not in a good spot (6-40). Monty Williams loves Bogdanovic, but if the Pistons are offered the same as last year they should probably entertain the idea. He’s 34 and doesn’t fit the future of this team.

Jonathan Kuminga, Golden State Warriors Forward

Problems are brewing in Golden State and this year’s team doesn’t have the same vibe. Fantom Sports Owner and resident Warriors fan, Shane Davis thinks they need to make some moves, but doesn’t think the dyansty is over. Kuminga is one of the guys that has been linked to the trade market. Moses Moody and Chris Paul have also been linked, the Warriors like the production of the latter, so I don’t think they’ll trade him. However, the other two are likely candidates. Both are young consistent role players who could be traded to acquire a big man, a need for the Warriors.

Daniel Gafford, Washington Wizards Center

The Washington Wizards are the second worst team in the NBA if you go based on record. They’re well out of the playoff picture which was expected this season. All of their veterans have popped up on the trade market including the 6-foot-10 veteran center. Gafford would be an efficient starter or long-term backup for a playoff-caliber team. The Wizards could likely get a late first or high seconds and a prospect for Gafford.

Clint Capela, Atlanta Hawks Center

Another player on the trade block for the Hawks as well, but I don’t think they should trade him. Capela is an intriguing candidate due to how many teams need a quality center. Capela has taken a step backwards in terms of defensive production this season, but he would have some time to turn that around. The trade value would be low, likely a couple of high seconds and/or a prospect.

Quentin Grimes, New York Knicks Guard

After a surprising 2022-23 season, this year has not gone according to the plan. Grimes has regressed this year after an illness and a sprained wrist. Through all of that, he has still been valuable for the Knicks on the defensive side of the ball. With how crowded they are in the backcourt. Grimes has fallen behind the likes of Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart and Donte DiVincenzo and newcomer OG Anunoby in the rotation. Tom Thibodeau has been reluctant to play Grimes with DiVincenzo. The Knicks have an option here, they could be patient or look to move Grimes. If they do the latter, they’ll likely either look for a first or a player who can provide a scoring punch alongside Brunson.
