The AFC West Has Been Disappointing

Over the 2022 NFL offseason, the teams in the AFC West division made big additions, the talk was that the division was going to be a battle. But, so far, the AFC West has not lived up to the hype.

Kansas City Chiefs:

The Chiefs are the one team that has not been disappointing. They sit atop the AFC West with a 3-1 record. Their only loss did come from the now 2-2-1 Indianapolis Colts team that has only beaten AFC West teams, the other being the Denver Broncos on Thursday Night Football in week five. The Chiefs look like a good football team, but they do have underwhelming losses and may have some more this year.

Los Angeles Chargers:

The Chargers hype landed at an all-time high this offseason. They have a record of 2-2 with losses to the Chiefs and Jaguars with their wins being versus the Raiders and the Texans. The 38-10 loss to the Jaguars stuck out because they looked so ineffective on offense and defense. They had big defensive additions such as multiple time All-Pro and former defensive player of the year Khalil Mack to play on the other side of Joey Bosa. The Chargers also added 2021 Pro Bowl cornerback J.C. Jackson to sure up their secondary. The defense still looks like it can hold the team back, they are giving up an average of 27.0 points per game which is third most in the NFL.

Denver Broncos:

Broncos country, let’s hide. The Broncos after the Thursday night football debacle sit at a record of 2-3. Their two wins versus the 49ers and Texans have not convinced even themselves that they are a team to be taken serious. The overtime 12-9 loss to the Colts on Thursday night football was a good summary of what the Broncos are this season. Good defense, really bad offense, even worse decisions by Russell Wilson and Nathaniel Hackett to essentially lose them the game.

Las Vegas Raiders:

The Raiders sit at last in the AFC West with a 1-3 record. Their three losses come in one score games. A veteran team with experience cannot make the mistakes they have made. The experience on both sides of the football cannot justify their record. The offense is able to move the ball down the field but is having problems scoring in the redzone. The addition of Chandler Jones has not helped the Raiders pass rush as the team had hoped. Maxx Crosby is the only defensive lineman with a sack. The upcoming week five matchup versus the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night football is a must win for the Raiders to keep their playoff hopes alive.
