The Best Landing Spots For Possible NFL Head Coaches

There are some very intriguing head coaching jobs that have opened up during the 2023-2024 NFL season. With only two confirmed hirings at this point in the cycle, let’s take a look at the best remaining landing spots for some of the top possible NFL head coaches.

Washington Commanders: Ben Johnson

The current offensive coordinator for the Lions, Johnson has been with Detroit since 2019 in a couple of different capacities. He is largely credited for the revival of Jared Goff’s career and is the mastermind behind one of the best rushing attacks in the league. The Lions were top five in both rushing and passing yards in 2023. Not to mention they are currently competing for a Super Bowl birth. Johnson will join a franchise in Washington hoping to turn things around, presumably with a rookie quarterback.

Carolina Panthers: Bobby Slowik

Slowik comes from the highly coveted Shanahan coaching tree. He worked with the 49ers from 2017 – 2023 and just finished up his first year as the offensive coordinator for the Houston Texans. Slowik created an offense that has rookie QB C.J. Stroud as the favorite to win ROY and helped the Texans reach the Divisional Round of the playoffs. Carolina tried going with the veteran coach route with Frank Reich, which failed miserably. This time around, they hire a young guy to help Bryce Young develop.

Atlanta Falcons: Bill Belichick

The Bill Belichick hire is one of the more interesting ones in this cycle. Obviously, he’s as proven as they come, but probably isn’t going to be a guy that helps build a franchise for the next decade. He is strongly rumored to take the Falcons job and I think it makes a lot of sense for both sides. Atlanta has a good roster in a weak division, but needs a better leader both at coach and at quarterback. Belichick can bring new life to a franchise that has had a good amount of success in the past. The biggest question will be where Belichick looks to fill the hole at QB. If he does it right, I think Atlanta becomes a very scary team.

Seattle Seahawks: Dan Quinn

After the surprising dismissal of long time coach Pete Carroll, the Seahawks find themselves in the market for a head coach. I think they go the veteran route and bring in a familiar face in Dan Quinn. Quinn, the current defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys, has coached back to back incredible defensive seasons for Dallas. He was also the defensive coordinator of Seattle’s 2014 Super Bowl winning team. The Seahawks have had their most success when they had an elite defense, and they try to get back to what works by hiring Quinn.

TL//DR: NFL Head Coaches
