Jack Studnicka was once viewed as the Bruins top prospect. Lately, he has been invisible. With all of the issues the Bruins have had with the roster to due COVID, they have barley turned to Studnicka. He’s had some good moments for Boston as a center. It was expected he would have a bigger impact with the departure of David Krejci and Charlie Coyle moving up to the second line. However, Coyle has moved back to the third line due to lineup reconfigurations. Wingers Oskar Steen and Anton Blidh are the only Providence Bruins to get consistent opportunities thus far. When Jack Studnicka has played in Boston this season, he has not make an impact. In five games with the big club, he has one assist. He has four goals and eight assists in the AHL this season.
Does This Mean His Future With Boston Is Bleak?
In all honesty, probably. Unless something crazy happens. It’s hard to determine if this says more about him, the team, or both. On one hand, you can make the case that he is not ready to be an NHL player. On the other hand, you can say the Bruins aren’t giving him enough opportunities. The Bruins already have Jake DeBrusk and minor leaguer Zach Senyshyn voicing their displeasure with the team and asking for a trade. Maybe Studnicka is next on the list. Boston’s farm system is in shambles with no clear NHL ready players coming down the pipeline. It doesn’t help that GM Don Sweeney completely whiffed on the 2015 draft class.
Can Boston Get Anything For Him?
Not likely. He doesn’t have much trade value if any at all. He doesn’t have that many NHL games under his belt and doesn’t always perform well. The upcoming offseason might be the most important in the recent history of the team in terms of the draft and the roster. At this point, maybe the Bruins hope Jack Studnicka will figure it and everything else will fall into place. Hope is a great thing to have. But as we all know, hope is not a plan.
