Women’s Flyweight contender Erin Blanchfield (11-1) made a statement at UFC Fight Night 219 submitting former champion Jessica Andrade (24-10) in the second round. After this stunning performance, Blanchfield called for a title shot against the winner of Shevchenko vs Grasso in March. Blanchfield is now 5-0 in her UFC career and has finished her last three opponents. Also, Alexander Hernandez (14-6) and Jim Miller (35-17) went to battle in a Lightweight contest on the main card. Hernandez outlasted the seasoned veteran Miller en route to a decision victory.
Erin Blanchfield (11-1) Def. Jessica Andrade (24-10)
The main event of UFC Fight Night 219 saw up-and-coming talent Erin Blanchfield face the dangerous Jessica Andrade. Coming into this contest Andrade was on a three-fight winning streak, with impressive victories over Lauren Murphy and Amanda Lemos. Blanchfield recently dominated fan favorite Molly McCann at UFC 281 outstriking the British fighter 93-7. Blanchfield is an extremely well-rounded fighter whose combination of boxing and jiu-jitsu will cause problems for other ranked fighters at 125 pounds.
In round one Andrade pressured Blanchfield recklessly throwing wild combinations to end the fight early. A few of these shots got through clean on Blanchfield, who returned fire with quick jabs to keep Andrade at distance. Andrade was trying to walk through the straight punches of Blanchfield to land her own shots. Blanchfield attempted to take the fight down midway through round one but Andrade defended her takedown attempt. After a very close round, Andrade was ahead due to her relentless pressure.
In round two Blanchfield looked to take the fight to the ground, securing a takedown within the first minute. Once the fight hit the ground Blanchfield showcased her elite Jiu-Jitsu skills transitioning through Andrade quickly. One minute and thirty seconds into round two Blanchfield was able to grab Andrade’s neck and apply a Rear Naked Choke submission forcing the former champion to tap out. After the fight, Blanchfield called for a title shot and said she would like to fight the winner of Shevchenko vs Grasso next month. Blanchfield (23 years old) has the potential to be the youngest women’s champion in UFC history.
Alexander Hernandez (14-6) Def. Jim Miller (35-17)
A fan-friendly lightweight fight between Jim Miller and Alexander Hernandez entertained fans Saturday night. Miller is a 41-fight veteran in the UFC and holds promotion records for wins and appearances. Hernandez is in the prime of his career at 31 years old and was looking to add Jim Miller’s name to his resume. Miller was riding a 3 fight win streak into this matchup submitting Donald Cerrone in July. This was a massive fight for Hernandez who had been finished by contenders Renato Moicano and Billy Quarentillo in his last two contests.
Round one started fast as Miller closed the distance to land crisp combinations on the inside. Both Henandez and Miller seemed content to stay in the pocket and trade with one another. Hernandez was getting hit cleanly at times but would answer back with damaging shots of his own. Henandez was in tremendous shape for this fight and started to put together combinations in volume as Miller tired. After three hard-fought rounds, Hernandez out stuck Miller 111-68 in total strikes earning a unanimous decision victory. This could be the last fight in the career of Jim Miller who will turn 40 years old this year. Hernandez should find himself in a compelling fight moving forward, after getting the job done this weekend.

Lins recently dropped down from the Heavyweight division and has completely transformed his body in the process. Lins is known for his grappling but looked impressive Saturday, showing the improvements he has made in striking. Also on the prelims, Dana White contender Series Alumni A.J. Fletcher (10-2) picked up his first win in the UFC submitting Themba Gorimbo (10-4) in round two.
