The newly named United Football League has announced which teams from the former USFL and XFL will make up the 2024 UFL teams. On the last day of 2023, the long-rumored merger between the two Spring football leagues in the United States was officially announced. During that announcement, the only two teams confirmed for the new UFL were the two league champions. But, on the first day of the new year, the UFL announced its new teams for the 2024 season.

Officials announced the UFL will have eight teams for its upcoming season. That is consistent with both the XFL and USFL teams. Officials also announced the two conferences will be divided with four teams from the old USFL and four teams from the old XFL. The conferences will also be named after the old leagues.

USFL Conference

Two-time USFL Champions, the Birmingham Stallions will play the UFL season opener. Joining the stallions in the USFL conference will be the Houston Roughnecks, the Memphis Showboats and the Michigan Panthers. Both the XFL and the USFL had a presence in the Houston market, so the UFL decided to keep Houston in the USFL Conference while bringing over the XFL team name.

Skip Holtz, Curtis Johnson, John DeFilippo and Mike Nolan will coach the USFL Conference teams.

XFL Conference

Playing Birmingham in the UFL Season opener will be the 2023 XFL Champion Arlington Renegades. They will be joined in the XFL Conference by the DC Defenders, the San Antonio Brahmas and the St. Louis Battlehawks.

Bob Stoops, Reggie Barlow, Wade Phillips and Anthony Becht will coach the XFL Conference teams.

All eight teams will be located in the Eastern and Central time zones. If the UFL succeeds, westward expansion could potentially happen.

The 2023 UFL Season kicks off March 30th, 2024.
