Underrated Players from the 2023-2024 NFL Season

underrated players NFL

Throughout the 2023-2024 NFL season, there’s been no shortage of big name players that have shown up every single week. From Tyreek Hill’s historic receiving season to Christian McCaffrey’s seemingly guaranteed weekly touchdowns, the stars have shined bright. But what about some of the more underrated players from this season? In this article, I take a look at some of the guys that have flown under the radars of many football fans.

Matthew Stafford

The Los Angeles Rams were unanimously predicted to be a bottom ten team coming into this season. With aging talent at premium positions, the Rams were seemingly getting ready to start a rebuild. However, with two games remaining, Stafford has the Rams sitting at 8-7, good enough for a wildcard spot in the NFC. Not only has he helped his team find success, but statistically, Stafford is having one of the best years of his carer. At 35 years old, Stafford is the fourth highest rated passer in the league with a grade of 86.5 per Pro Football Focus. He’s also second in big time throws with 33 and a career low mark of only 9 turnover worthy plays. Not to mention he is a huge reason for rookie sensation Puka Nacua’s standout season. Stafford has undoubtedly been one of the more underrated players this year.

Sam Cosmi

When it comes to underrated players, most people would be shocked to hear that one of them comes from the Commander’s offensive line. But Sam Cosmi has quietly put together a very solid season for Washington. In his first year starting at guard, Cosmi has only allowed 1 sack and 4 hits. He’s also posted an exceptional 82 run blocking grade to go along with a 73 pass blocking grade. Is he an all-pro caliber player? Not quite. He is however, a bright spot on a unit that has been under extreme scrutiny all season long.

Rasul Douglas

After being traded for a 3rd round pick at the trade deadline, Rasul Douglas has made an instant impact for the Buffalo Bills. He has earned career high grades in both coverage and overall grade at 83.2 and 81.6 respectively. Douglas is also top 5 in fewest yards allowed for corners that have played at least 75% of snaps this season. The Bills have been plagued with injuries in the secondary, seeing both Kaiir Elam and Tre’Davious White end up on injured reserve. Buffalo is in the middle of a late season surge and Douglas has been a big reason why.

Jadeveon Clowney

Many fans probably didn’t even realize that Jadeveon Clowney landed with Baltimore in the offseason. Thankfully for the Ravens, their return on investment has been incredible. Clowney, in his tenth season, has produced the highest pass rushing grade of his career at 80.3. He’s also just 2 sacks shy of his career high of 11 with two games to go. Clowney has bolstered one of the best defensive units in football and has been one of the more underrated players in the NFL.
