
USA beach volleyball continued their winning ways against the Netherlands. April Ross and Alix Klineman defeated the team of Madelein Meppelink and Sanne Keizer. They took the match in three sets and improve to 3-0.
Set One
After a tie at 7 in the first set, the Netherlands tried to separate from the US. Tied at 17, the Americans were able to get out to a slim lead, but the Netherlands kept it close and made it set point. The US then took a timeout. The US tied is at 20 to send the set to extra points. The Netherlands won the set 22-20.
Set Two and Three
The Netherlands once again tried to get out to a lead, but it was still closely contested. Neither team had the clear advantage Additionally, no matter the result, Ross and Klineman are moving on into the knockout round. At this point, only the seeding could be improved upon. A timeout was taken with the set tied at 12. The Americans tried to pull away with an 18-15 lead and then won the set 21-17.
The USA beach volleyball dynamic duo jumped out to a 6-3 lead. It seemed like the Netherlands ran out of gas as the Netherlands took a timeout trailing 9-4. Finally, that was confirmed with a 15-5 set win. Ross and Klineman have easily become the top team in the pool. They will get a chance to move on and compete for a medal. Ross has a silver medal from London in 2012 and a bronze medal from Rio in 2016. Furthermore, all of the teams are trying to reaffirm to the world that USA beach volleyball is still elite.
