Warriors Primed for Deep Playoff Run if Curry’s Healthy

Warrriors Championship

(Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports)

For the majority of the season, the Warriors have been struggling. In recent weeks the Warriors have seen some success that could lead to a deep playoff run. There’s only one thing that could get in the way… injuries.

“The season really is a marathon,” Kerr said, per Anthony Slater of The Athletic. “At any point of the season, you rattle off 10 wins in a row and that matters. Doesn’t matter if it’s at the beginning or the end. I still have no doubt that this team can get on a run and make a good push.”

Based on last season, it’s fair to keep the optimism. The Conference Finals featured two teams that were in the Play-In Tournament (Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers). The former reached the NBA Finals where they faced the Denver Nuggets.

If the playoffs started today, the Warriors would have the No. 10 seed in the playoffs. They’re 11.5 games back of the No. 1 seed and five games back of the No. 5 seed. Like many years in the past, this Warriors group will look to get one at least one more playoff run from a veteran-laden group that consists of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.

Last Thursday, Kerr and co. took a sigh of relief when they found out, Curry’s ankle injury wasn’t as serious as it could have been. As of now, there’s no real timetable for when he might return. He has been cleared to begin on-court workouts and he is making “good progress.” If they can get hot right before the playoffs, they could make a deep run. If they do, that veteran core could cement their legacy with a fifth ring together.

Curry is the heart and soul of the Warriors offense this season. They have a higher rating with him on the court than without him.
