Electrifying Lightweight Bobby Green knocked out highly touted prospect Grant Dawson in 33 seconds Saturday night. It was a statement win for the UFC veteran who has put together back-to-back finish victories. Green entered the fight Saturday as a large betting underdog (+375) at online sportsbooks. After his submission (Arm Triangle) win against Tony Ferguson, Green was thrown into a main event and cashed in on his opportunity. Green will be ranked in the top 15 next week when the official UFC rankings are updated.
This victory was Bobby Green’s 12th inside the promotion. Oddsmakers expected Dawson to utilize his wrestling and ground game but he never got his offense going. After backing Dawson to the cage, Green threw a straight left hand that floored his opponent. From there Green pounced on Dawson and finished him off with ground and pound.
Many intriguing fights may be on the horizon for Bobby Green, let’s look at a couple of matchups getting thrown around online.
Dan Hooker (23-12):
“The Hangman” Dan Hooker needs a fight at Lightweight and a potential showdown with Bobby Green has combat sports fight fans salivating. Both 155-pound finishers have competed in the UFC over 20 times and are fan favorites. This would be a can’t-miss fight that’s almost guaranteed to deliver. Both Green and Hooker prefer to stand and trade with their opponents, which could lead to a fight of the night. Easily, this matchup could headline a Fight Night card at the Apex or be featured on a PPV main card.
Renato Moicano (17-5):
Brazilian finisher Renato Moicano publicly called out Green following his win Saturday night. Moicano was teammates with Grant Dawson at the American Top Team and said he wants revenge for his training partner. Moicano has gone 3-1 in his last four fights with all three fights ending by submission. This would also be an entertaining fight but more of a strategic battle between striker and grappler. Moicano has 17 professional wins but none have come by knockout. This matchup could also be a headliner or Co-Main event on a Fight Night card.
Paddy Pimblett (20-3)(W/ win over Ferguson):
British superstar Paddy Pimblett is one of the brightest up-and-comers in the sport but he has a fight scheduled with Tony Ferguson. If Pimblett is able to get passed the aging Ferguson he will need another fight before getting thrown into the top ten rankings. Bobby Green would be a perfect matchup to see where Pimblett is currently at talent-wise. The build-up to this fight would be the best of any available option at 155 pounds.
