Where Do The Sacramento Kings Fit In The Western Conference?

Although the Kings lost the play-in tournament, they were relentless in their push for a third option. The front office eventually made it happen by acquiring the six-time all-star and California native DeMar DeRozan. This addition allows the Sacramento Kings to contend for a top-three seed in the Western Conference.

On the court, DeRozan will increase Sacramento’s chances of success. He is one of the league’s best isolation scorers with a mentality to thrive in the clutch. Behind closed doors, the former USC Trojan can guide franchise star Keegan Murray on both ends of the floor.

The three-headed snake of DeRozan, De’Aaron Fox, and Domantas Sabonis provide the Kings with enough star power to battle with the best teams in the West. Many fans forget Sacramento was at the top just a season ago. They can bounce back just as good, if not better, if the pieces fall into place.

The Western Conference is not ready for what the Sacramento Kings have in store for next season.

The Sacramento Kings have the most competent offensive trio in the Western Conference. DeMar DeRozan, De’Aaron Fox, and Domantas Sabonis can each score when needed, make the appropriate reads, and create open looks for three-point shooters around the perimeter. Defensively, they show up with size, strength, and toughness.

Where the Kings have an edge on other contenders is their bench. They retained star shooting guard Malik Monk, one of the league leaders in scoring off the bench. Last season, Monk posted 15.4 points and 5.1 assists in 72 games for head coach Mike Brown. The game plan shattered when the Kentucky guard suffered a sprained MCL.

The front office added several quality veterans, Jordan McLaughlin and Jalen McDaniels, in free agency. These players will push the team through adversity and contribute on the floor when their names are called up.

Health concerns set the Kings back from the playoffs last season. However, with an injury-free roster and a passionate head coach, Sacramento has a chance to end its drought and show up in the NBA Finals. Simultaneously, Fox could jump into the debate for all-NBA honors.
