It was reported Saturday night, that the Kings had reached a Sign-and-Trade deal to acquire DeMar DeRozan. ESPN Insider Adrian Wojnarowski first reported the news. The deal includes three teams as DeRozan signs a three-year, $74 million contract.
The trade:
Kings: DeMar DeRozan
Spurs: Harrison Barnes and an unprotected 2031 pick swap
Bulls: Chris Duarte, two second-round picks and cash
The Sacramento Kings have been a young team on the rise over the past couple of seasons. They’ve found their core group of players in De’Aaron Fox, Domantas Sabonis and Keegan Murray. Adding a veteran player like DeRozan will only make this team more explosive in the Western Conference.
DeRozan is a six-time All-Star who turns 35 next month. He’s been on an incredible scoring run with the Bulls over the last three years. That run has seen him finish Top-3 in Clutch Player of the Year, twice. Finishing second to Stephen Curry in 2024. He had earned an All-Star bid in his first two seasons with the Bulls. During his time in Chicago, he averaged 25.5 points, 5.1 assists, and 4.7 rebounds.
As it stands right now, DeRozan would slot in as the Small Forward in Sacramento.
The Spurs, who have been looking to add some veterans alongside Victor Wembanyama, bring in Barnes after already acquiring Chris Paul last week. Barnes won an NBA Championship with Golden State in 2015. He has spent the past 5 1/2 seasons with the Kings, playing in all 82 games each of the last two seasons. Barnes averaged 12.2 points and three rebounds for the Kings in 2023-24 while shooting 47.4% overall and 38.7% from 3-point range.
Duarte, 27, 3.9 points in 59 games last season for the Kings. They had acquired him from the Indiana Pacers just last offseason in exchange for two second-round picks.
