When the Atlanta Hawks traded Dejounte Murray to New Orleans, they were set on receiving an unproven talent like Dyson Daniels in return. They scouted his potential in the 2022 NBA draft, but he was off the board by the time Atlanta was on the clock. The opportunity to land Daniels arose in the offseason, and they accepted immediately with no hesitation.

In his first season with the Hawks, Daniels has transformed the Hawks’ defensive potential. This comes as a surprise for NBA fans worldwide, as the Australian star did not showcase much in his time with the Pelicans. Conversely, he was limited on a roster with veteran guards of different skill sets.

Although Atlanta has only played ten games, Daniels has been dominating the defensive end of the floor. Some of the league’s best scorers have their worst nightmare when they see Daniels shadowing them. This has provided the Hawks with more turnovers forced, leading to more points on the big screen.

If Daniels meets the minimum game requirement, he deserves recognition as a Defensive Player of the Year Candidate.

The Atlanta Hawks could not have been more right about Dyson Daniels and his fit in the rotation. He is perfect under the coaching style of Quin Snyder, making the game plan more powerful next to superstar Trae Young.

The hype around Daniels’ defense has been nothing short of phenomenal. The former eighth overall pick has totaled 36 steals in ten games, leading the league with an average of 3.6. Additionally, Daniels rests comfortably at the top with 76 deflections in 33.1 minutes for the city of Atlanta.

What makes Daniels such a special talent is not only his contributions clamping down but how much of an impact he makes on offense. He performs exceptionally well next to Young, as they know where to find each other on the court. This explains the significant improvements in Daniels’ scoring and shot selection.

Nonetheless, Daniels has earned recognition as a Defensive Player of the Year Candidate for Atlanta. He is one of the most valuable players on the Hawks, and without him, they would hold one of the league’s worst records. Instead, they are seventh in the East, and Daniels is a significant reason Snyder will make a notable push to the playoffs.
