Almost a year removed from one of the biggest events in women’s boxing history, another big event is set to take place at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night. On April 30, 2022, Amanda Serrano took on Katie Taylor for the undisputed lightweight championship. The bout was the first female headlining event in the venue’s history. The fight itself lived up to the hype as Katie Taylor scored a controversial split decision over Serrano, who was moving up in weight to become the first undisputed Puerto Rican champion.

Serrano (43-2-1, 30 KO) will once again have the opportunity to become the undisputed champion at her natural weight class this Saturday night. She will face Mexico’s 32-year-old WBA champion Erika Cruz Hernandez (15-1, 3 KO) to collect the only belt in the division she doesn’t currently own. Women’s boxing is seeing a surge in popularity thanks to high-level fights and bigger promotions taking a chance on these talented fighters.

The undercard features more of the top women in the sport, including Alycia Baumgardner (13-1, 7 KO). Baumgardner is also looking to become undisputed at 130 lbs. She will face France’s 31-year-old Elhem Mekhaled (15-1, 3 KO). Baumgardner will defend her WBC, WBO, and IBF titles with the vacant WBA title at stake. In her previous fight, Baumgardner took on Mikaela Mayer, who was hailed as the best fighter at 130 lbs.

The card will also feature up-and-coming prospect Skye Nicolson. Nicolson is 5-0 and quickly rising to the top of the featherweight rankings. She will be fighting Tania Alvarez for the vacant WBC Silver Featherweight Title.
