Corbin Carroll

The Diamondbacks made a considerably surprising World Series appearance in 2023 after rolling through some of the league’s top teams. That brings us to the biggest question surrounding the 2024 Arizona Diamondbacks this year, can they prove that last year wasn’t a fluke?

Where were they in 2023?

Coming off of their first World Series appearance since 2001, many fans were surprised when looking at at a team that was lead by young stars like rookie of the year Corbin Caroll who was the leader of the pack. Being the first player ever to hit 10+ triples, 25+ doubles, 25+ home runs, and 50+ stolen bases in a single season put the D-backs turned some heads throughout the league.

The Diamondbacks finished with an 84-78 record and clinching a wild card bid in a heavy weight NL West division.

Key Losses

Evan Longoria – The veteran third baseman added much needed experience for the D-backs last year and remains a free agent. Tommy Pham was another key player to Arizona’s post-season push last year who added a big bat to the lineup. His 109 hits, 16 homeruns, and 68 runs batted in, came up big in the post season. Pham also remains a free agent.

Dominic Fletcher – Traded away to the Chicago White Sox for minor league pitcher Christian Mena.

Key Additions- NL Champs Added Depth

  1. If you can’t beat em, sign em. One of the biggest and most anticipated signings this offseason was Jordan Montgomery. He will be a fun one-two punch with 2023 first team all MLB pitcher Zac Gallen. Montgomery torched the D-backs in the World Series as a member of the Texas Rangers and will be fun to watch on the other side this year.
  2. LHP, Eduardo Rodríguez: Four years, $80mm. Another pitcher coming off his best year. Throwing for a 3.30 ERA, this signing was a major acquisition for the for an already loaded staff.
  3. OF/DH, Joc Pederson: The two-time World Series champion, Pederson comes over from San Francisco on a 1 year $12.5mm deal. His power bat will be a key piece to the puzzle to a second consecutive pennant push.

Where are they hoping to go?

Nothing less than a back-to-back World Series appearance is what Arizona is striving for, something only done once before in franchise history. With major additions to the pitching rotation and the lineup, there shouldn’t be a question that they will finish at the top of the NL West as long as they can stay healthy.
