Carroll, 22, was pulled up to the Diamondbacks in 2022 but did not notch at least 130 at-bats, which is the required threshold for a player’s season to be considered as a rookie year. Therefore, Carroll’s rookie season falls in 2023 and has been nothing short of spectacular.

The speedy outfielder is posting a .289 BA with 17 home runs and an OPS of .923. Carroll’s success has been one of the main reasons for the Diamondbacks’ above-average season, as they currently sit atop of the NL West, a division that has primarily been dominated in the past decade by teams like the Dodgers and Giants.

This will be the first All-Star selection for Corbin Carroll, and he joins an elite list of players selected to an All-Star game as a rookie, including Mike Trout, Ronald Acuña Jr., and most recently, Julio Rodriguez.

Drafted 16th overall in the first round of the 2019 MLB draft, Carroll quickly rose to the top of the national prospects list, as he was named the #2 overall prospect in Baseball America’s pre-2023 prospect rankings. In his time with the Diamondbacks Single A, AA, and AAA associate teams, he slashed .307 with 62 HRs, and sported an .OPS of 1.036. The star outfielder now has been trusted as the team’s lead-off hitter, and has become a fan favorite and a franchise cornerstone for a franchise that has struggled to make the postseason in recent seasons.

The 2023 MLB All-Star Game will be held on July 11 at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington. Carroll will be making his start in the outfield, and will be the only rookie starter on either team. To see the full All-Star rosters, view the MLB’s official roster here.
